Tamarin Falls & La Vanille Nature Park
Two sides of southern Mauritius in one day: the seven-tier Tamarin Falls in the rainforest and the giant tortoises of La Vanille Nature Park.
I offer this trip to families who want to get off the beaten track without punishing their legs. The Tamarin Falls — seven successive tiers deep in a gorge — are reached via a shaded forest path of about an hour. It’s not mountaineering, but fair warning: you arrive with wet feet, and that’s part of the experience.
In the afternoon, we head to La Vanille Nature Park at Rivière des Anguilles. I won’t oversell it, but watching 200 kg Aldabra giant tortoises move calmly within arm’s reach — children don’t forget that. The park also has Nile crocodiles, fruit bats and an outstanding butterfly collection.
I handle the full logistics: transport, entrance fees, timing. Bring clothes that can get wet for the morning section.
