Pamplemousses

Currently: 4 excursions

Pamplemousses means the botanical garden first: one of the oldest in the world, known for its giant water lilies and rare palms. You walk it for a good hour, in the shade, and it is the stop my guests mention most on the way back.

Next door, the old Beau Plan sugar mill has become a museum: this is where you understand what cane did to this country, and where you taste rums and sugars you will not find elsewhere. The estate restaurant serves lunch on several of my tours.

You do not sleep in Pamplemousses, you spend half a day there. It is twenty minutes from Grand Baie.
