Mon Choisy Beach Resort is one of the newest in the north, and it shows: new buildings, large pools, apartments with kitchens. This is what I propose for families or longer stays, when a hotel room starts feeling tight after a week.

It faces Mont Choisy beach, a long strip of sand lined with filao trees where Mauritians come to picnic on Sundays — always a good sign. Grand Baie is ten minutes away, Trou aux Biches five.

Having a kitchen changes a lot over a fortnight: market in the morning, fresh fish, and you eat out only when you feel like it. I can arrange the car and a first grocery run before you land.
