Trou aux Biches is known for its lagoon: clear water, sandy bottom, reef close in. It is one of the best places on the island to snorkel without taking a boat, and most of the north’s dive centres are based here.
The village is more spread out and quieter than Grand Baie, with a long shaded public beach and shops along the coast road.
It is a good base if you are coming mainly for the sea. Grand Baie is fifteen minutes away, Port Louis half an hour.
