Tea Route — Bois Chéri & Saint Aubin
Rolling tea plantations, an altitude tasting session and a colonial estate visit: the Tea Route of the South, between Bois Chéri and Saint Aubin.
The Tea Route is a trip I recommend to travellers who want to understand Mauritius beyond the beaches. Bois Chéri, in the southern highlands, hosts the oldest tea plantation on the island — 250 hectares of tea bushes at 450 metres altitude, with clear views over the east coast on good days.
The visit covers the factory tour (leaf to cup), a guided tasting of Mauritian flavoured teas (vanilla, spices, tropical fruit), and access to Lake Bois Chéri. A few kilometres on, the colonial estate of Saint Aubin offers a striking contrast: artisan rum distillery, vanilla garden and a traditional Creole lunch.
I handle transport and reservations at both estates. This day appeals strongly to travellers who enjoy history and culture as much as scenery.
