Friday Attitude

Friday is the laid-back little brother of Tropical, in the same village. Young feel, a terrace on the lagoon, a bar where you end up talking to everyone. If you’re after monastic silence, look elsewhere — if you’re after life, this is it.

Rooms are modest and well kept, the Mauritian cooking is generous, and Ile aux Cerfs is a stone’s throw away. The hotel also runs kayak and paddleboard outings on the lagoon, which is shallow and very calm here.

I recommend it for solo travellers, groups of friends, and tighter budgets that don’t want to sacrifice location. An hour from the north.
